Adarsha Kelly

Adarsha Kelly, from Glasgow, Scotland, is firmly rooted in the Scottish folksinging tradition. His acapella interpretation of Sri Chinmoy’s Bengali melodies creates a unique Indo-Celtic sound, a blend of soulfulness, power and silence.

Adarsha has been singing these meditative songs since the early 1970's. Sri Chinmoy had boundless admiration for his soulful performances, and would often request him to sing at meditation gatherings and during Sri Chinmoy's own concerts of meditative music which he performed around the world. In 2001, he recorded a CD titled Singing the Songs of Self-Offering.

Remarkably, Adarsha was never classically trained as a singer, and he attributes his singing capability entirely to his spiritual practice. "I don't have any technique or any particular method of singing." he says of his singing. "I don't even do voice exercises, which maybe I should - I feel the voice comes from the soul, and the soul is aroused through meditation and being in Guru's presence and that's the catalyst that allows the voice, in my opinion, to shine through."
